Why Over 80 Of New Year Resolutions To Lose Weight Fail Within One Month

By Howe Russ
Its that time of year again when everybody makes resolutions to lose weight. For most people this years resolution will end just like the last one did, with no progress being made despite the best intentions in the world. Most people who attempt diet plans in January dont know how to lose weight and, as a result, they fail to get started before the wheels have fallen off.

Are there any telltale signs which prevent you from achieving those results you crave?

Over the years, January has become the month where gym memberships soar in popularity and most of those memberships dont last the year despite people having good intentions when they initially take them out. If this situation sounds familiar to you, you can relax safe in the knowledge that its certainly not something which has just affected you.

A lot of people who constantly set failed New Years resolutions are looking for an instant fix to their problems. The first step of getting results is realizing that nothing will change overnight. January 1st will indeed come and go, you will still be required to put the work in during February, March and the later months.

In order to reach success with your fat loss mission you will need to be serious and long-term about achieving your goals. Sadly, the new year resolutions many people make are quick fix wishes they simply cannot stick to. A lot of people do it simply because its something they have done every year for a long time now and they dont know anything else. Thats right, even though they know theyre not going to stick to the new diet routine theyll still make plans to lose weight this year. Usually, celebrity magazines and society are to blame for this religious diet planning.

It doesnt make a difference what time or day it happens to be. If you decide you want to change your lifestyle you can begin taking action right now. Those who are serious enough to possess that type of mentality are the ones who tend to get superior results.

Ultimately its a ready-made excuse for you and you know it. If you are going to allow yourself to fail in your next diet routine purely because its a Wednesday and you now need to wait until next Monday before you get back on your routine, you have become your own worst enemy. Dieting is the same no matter what day it happens to be.

Results are there for you to achieve at any time of the year. You can start by setting a calorie deficit, which means consuming slightly less food per day than you do now. Once you have this in check you can combine it with regular water intake and small, regular meals replacing big, square meals which will help your metabolism.

Rather than making excuses for why your latest diet failed and why you were unable to stick to it this time around, try looking at the facts. Its not that you dont know how to lose weight, its that you probably arent truly ready to commit to a lifestyle change at the moment.

Making Weight Loss a Successful New Years Resolution

Weight loss is one of the most popular New Years resolutions, but it can also be one of the hardest to achieve and maintain if not approached appropriately. It is true many people lose weight each year as part of their New Years resolutions, but it is also true that many of those people later gain some or all of that weight back. To make weight loss a successful goal in the new year, weight loss should be seen as creating a lifestyle change, rather than a temporary race to shed pounds.

Whether you want to lose 10 pounds or 100 plus pounds, successful weight loss is about lifestyle modifications. The key is to start slow and set realistic goals for yourself. A good place to begin is to cut down on sugar. Excess sugar in the body that does not get burned ultimately turns into fat. Maybe you know you already consume too much sugar such as sodas, desserts and snacks, or maybe you dont realize how much sugar you are really consuming. Many products contain more sugar than you realize. Read the labels of all food and drinks you consume to see how much sugar is in your regular diet. Chances are you can cut out some sugar.

Eat regularly. One mistake people make when trying to lose weight is skipping meals. This is unfortunate because skipping meals only starves the body of the healthy nutrients that it needs to regulate itself and be sufficient in losing weight. If your schedule keeps you from eating meals at regular meal times, try to carry healthy snacks to space throughout the day. Healthy snacks every few hours such as a cup of yogurt, a quarter cup of almonds, a piece of fresh fruit, or other easy healthy snacks will help you keep your metabolism on target and keep you from crashing.

If you are unsure of how to begin your weight loss program or how to stay on track, you may want to try a medical weight loss program under the care of a Board Certified Bariatric Physician. A Bariatric physician is a medical doctor who is specially trained in weight loss management and in the treatment and management of related medical conditions.

A program under a doctors care can help you fulfill all aspects of weight loss and take into account your age, genes, medical history, metabolism, and lifestyle choices, which all play a role in weight loss and weight management.

New Years weight loss resolutions can be frustrating but they dont have to be. With the proper guidance and support you can change the way you look and feel for a lifetime.

Everything Old is New Again

Once again Joel Moskowitz’s blog over at Tools for Working Wood has got me extremely excited.
( that just sounds wrong but please, humor me )
Joel posted a link to an absolutely gorgeous 1869 Franz Wertheim tool catalog that had been acquired by Princeton University and has been digitally scanned and is available for the world to see.
Joel documented his trip to Princeton in an earlier post and had me intrigued then by the catalog he mentioned. Not enough to actually go to New Jersey myself but pretty interested all the same! Head over to the TFWW web site and have a look. I spent the last hour pouring over the hand drawn images and one of them in particular caught my eye. On page 16, Fig. 117 shows a saw that looks a whole lot like a kerfing plane I’ve been using for the past few months. I blogged awhile back on an earlier version I made which is nothing more than a moulding plane style tool with a saw blade captured within the block. Since then I’ve made several versions and one looks like a plough plane with an adjustable fence very much like the saw/plane in the Wertheim tool catalog from 1869.
Just when you think you have a new idea eh?
;D
Oh well…The good news is what ever that tool was originally used for, my modern version works really well at establishing a saw kerf in your stock. This is extremely helpful when making precise saw cuts. ie: making shop sawn veneer.
The other good news is that I have a chapter on making and using my version which I call a ‘kerfing plane’ in my new book!
I’m a sucker for these hand drawn catalogs and Joel keeps bringing them to our attention. Good on him! -Thanks Joel.
